Walking Through the Fire
Mar 22, 2020
This one time, at Corona Camp…
Corona Camp, the first camp we’ve all been to together. It’s still kind of new here in America, but only a few days in and I’m pretty certain I’ve learned things I will never forget. I’m sure we all have.
I’ve gone through a spectrum of emotions, or the wheel of emotions, they seem to circle back around. It’s been interesting, I’ve had emotions I can’t explain, feelings I didn’t understand. I’ve seen fear, I’ve felt fear. I’ve seen sadness, I’ve felt sadness. I’ve seen anger, I’ve felt anger. I’m not sure I knew how palpable emotions were until the last few days. You can feel them - in your core, your heart, your very center. You can even feel the emotions of others. A friend of mine calls emotions “e-motions,” energy in motion. And this energy in motion has been quite strong.
Like I said, my emotions, my energy in motion, were running around this wheel, spanning the spectrum, looping around and around. And I didn’t really understand them. I physically felt them, and I did not like it, but I didn’t even know what they were, I didn’t cognitively understand what I was feeling.
I only knew they hurt. I only knew I hurt. I only knew others hurt. But I didn’t know why. And it’s OK.
That’s what I’ve learned so far. I’ve learned it’s OK to have energies in motion. It’s OK to hurt just as much as it’s OK to feel great. It’s OK to cry, it’s OK to laugh. If you laugh and cry hard enough, they will both shake you from your center out and cleanse you. They can both heal you with the energies they flush through you. Let them run their course, let them run free. Allow them, release them. It heals the soul, It actually restores the heart.
And then, look up. Laughing or crying, be thankful for the energies that run through you. They give color and depth to our lives. I’m learning to do this. I’m better at it on some moments then on others.
We are all at Corona Camp. There are going to be many lessons to learn here. There is going to be many opportunities to experience growth and express beauty.
But beauty will come from this. Our energies may get set into motion, but it’s OK. We can let them and even use them and harness their power to create something beautiful. Or we can simply let them pass through us so we can heal. The growth, the strength, is found in the letting. Let yourself breathe. Let yourself feel. We will get through this. We will get out of Corona Camp.
If it is helpful to you, this passage has helped me get through an extremely challenging time in my life, and it has often given me comfort during other trying times. It has helped me “let go.” It may help you, too, if you let it. Please place all judgment aside and read this with an open heart. —- On second thought, I’m going to paraphrase this to help all eyes that may read it.
This is inspired by Isaiah 43: 1 - 5
“But now, thus says the One who created you, (insert your name here).
And the One who formed you, (insert your name here.):
‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the One who made you, The Creator, your Keeper;
I created this world for you. It’s all for you.
Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored,
And I have loved you;
Therefore I made all of the world and all of those who came before you so you could be here now, in this moment.
Fear not, for I am with you.’”
