The Number 1 Reason You Should Move Often for Health and Longevity

I’ll cut to the chase: You were made to move.
And that’s why you should do it.
Seriously, movement is the intended driver for the health of your nervous system. We are designed in such a way that movement builds, heals, and restores our brains. When we move often, we are “feeding” our brains with the information it needs to stay healthy. This, in turn, benefits the whole body.
When the brain gets fed the movement nutrition it is designed to have, ALL of the other systems and processes in the body work better. Movement doesn’t just help boost the nervous system; it boosts the immune system, the lymphatic system, the digestive system, and every other system in your body.
When we don’t move often, we compromise all the systems in the body by making them work harder, or they become less efficient (which makes them work harder). Movement helps to keep all processes in the body running optimally.
But movement also nourishes the body. It keeps cartilage healthy, which keeps joints happy. Movement also strengthens the tendons and the muscles, keeping them soft, supple, and strong. And here is something you probably don’t think about, but movement also moves the arteries and the veins - it keeps your blood vessels soft, supple, and healthy as well.
Movement literally nourishes the entire body. Which means movement nourishes the whole person: body, mind, and soul. When your body is functioning properly, you feel good. When you feel good, your emotions are balanced, and your thoughts are peaceful. You are a more giving, loving, creative, productive, and useful person. When you don’t move, when your body doesn’t feel good, you become weighed down with your emotions, your thoughts, and your baggage. It’s hard to be loving and useful when you’re miserable.
We are clearly Movement Beings. We are designed to move often throughout the entire day, every day.
So honor your design and move often. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Get on the floor and rock back and forth. Remember or relearn how to breathe properly (or just remember to breathe). Go for walks. Get up and down from your workstation several times a day to go to the bathroom or to go get a glass of water. Do sets of squats or pushups throughout the day. Just do something. Something is way better than nothing. Something leads to freedom in your own body, and freedom leads to feeling amazing.
Be the movement being you were created to be.

I used to see an osteopath periodically, just to complement my practices. One day she was pulling on my bones and said, "In this office we have decided that, if there is a Fountain of Youth, it will be found in movement." That's a premise with promise! Thanks, Tim.
