What's the Best Way to Crawl?
Jan 17, 2016
Once in a while, someone will write and ask, "What's the best way to crawl?" The answer to this is really simple: It depends. And, it depends on a few variables. One variable is the person in question. The best way for a person to crawl is dependent on the person. For Bob, baby crawling may be the best crawl for his body. For Jerry, maybe it's leopard crawling that gives him great results. For Sarah, maybe walking is the best way for her to crawl. For the person in question, the best way to crawl is the way their body needs to crawl at the time.
Which leads to another variable of the best way to crawl: Time. Life has seasons. So do you. When you were a child, you crawled for a season. Then you learned to stand and walk. (Hopefully, you crawled for a season). If you are someone who set out to Press RESET and restore your body, maybe you baby crawled for another season. Maybe later, you began spider-man crawling when you were strong enough to do it. So, the best way to crawl can vary from person to person and season to season.
Another variable to consider is purpose. What is the purpose of the crawl? Or, why are you crawling? If you are crawling simply to Press RESET, baby crawling may be the best way for you to crawl. If you are crawling as a means of strength training, maybe backwards crawling up a hill will give you the greatest returns. It all depends on your why, your goal, your intent.
These are just 3 variables here, but they all overlap and they are all person specific. The best way for you to crawl is the way that best satisfies your reason, your season and your body. So again, it depends.
Now, did you notice that I said, "For Sarah, maybe walking is the best way for her to crawl?" And, I said, "When you were a child, you crawled for a season." There should be a time in our bodies when walking is the best way to crawl. I really do believe that. Crawling was indeed meant for a season. Don't get me wrong, it is a near miraculous RESET! I am so grateful that it is programmed into our original operating system. But there is supposed to be a transformation when walking becomes a near miraculous RESET too. That is a season we were ultimately designed for.
This is just something to ponder over. Life was meant to be lived on two feet. When crawling establishes a solid, reflexive foundation of strength, walking should continue to restore and refresh our bodies. Walking should even maintain, if not deepen, our solid, reflexive foundation of strength.
Today, the best way for you to crawl may be on your hands in knees. But there may be a time when walking is the best way for you to crawl, depending on your reason and intent.
